Playthroughs & Quick Thoughts: The Beginning

So this is pretty much a thing to share some quick thoughts on some of the video games I’ve played over (and in some cases didn’t finish) the years.

Mario Bros games… Basically play one and you’ve played ’em all since they’re pretty much the same thing but with a small difference here and there. A bit like Pokémon in that respect but more on that in a bit. Now… Mario 64 is hands down the GOAT. The hand held version is decent tho. Also… I’m probably among a very small few that actually liked the OG movie and wish it had a sequel.

Pokemon… A franchise that’s been around for 3 decades and for the longest time the main protagonist was a perpetual 10 year old. But this is about the mainline games and about the only time they made effort to break the mold was during the Sun and Moon era. But then they said we’ll fix the mold and be less different with the remakes of those two games. Why? Who knows! But way to be boring fellas!

Cyberpunk 2077… Much like New World: Aeternum and No Man’s Sky, I was fortunate enough to miss the Eras of Glitchery and Failed Deliveries. Now I’ve enjoyed Cyberpunk, don’t get me wrong. Even if I’ve not finished the two life paths I’ve started and Panam is the best. But why in the absolute hell did they make the playthru in first person view!? Especially when you get to customize and play dress up with your V.

Being in first person just ruins the whole thing and I felt that way about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as well. Which… Apparently just added a third person mode back in December according to Wikipedia.

No Man’s Sky… Fun for awhile but gets repetitive/boring some time after. And likely to forget that you finished the main story because it’d be like blink and you miss it. Needs more variety. Hopefully Light No Fire doesn’t repeat NMS’ mistakes.

Aeternum… Came late to this game and if it wasn’t offered for free on PSN I probably never would have seen it. Sadly, about 2 months in to my playthru when Amazon killed it cause money. Which killed my interest in the game despite the game being allowed to continue for a few more months.

Legend of Dragoon… Hands down one of the best video games of the PS1 era. Even with the ridiculously long and difficult final boss fight.

Zelda… Like Pokémon and Mario, basically the same thing with some differences here and there. Ocarina of Time and Breath Of The Wild are still fantastic.

That one N64 Star Wars Podracing game. Fun but man did it get increasingly difficult the longer you played. Even with the setting possibly on easy. Or… At least I think it was set on easy. Been a long while. And until recently, I had no idea it’d been given an HD release for the Switch, PS4, and XBox One. Might have to go track that down!

Golden Sun… Great game series but can’t remember if I ever beat the second one.

Secret of Evermore for the SNES… A rare example of a game that made me rage quit for a few months. As every boss fight was an aggravating experience, even when you finally know what you’re doing. Deserves more recognition and a remake in this modern time of ours.

Sleeping Dogs… Great game but that one damn rooftop mission is an act of aggravation that I (and probably others) could’ve gone without.

WWE Games… Fun but overtime became repetitive and doesn’t really offer anything innovative anymore. Making just one game and adding/removing things from time to time would probably benefit the games quite a bit like its done for GTA 5’s Online world. Not even gonna go into the TNA game.

Speaking of the Grand Theft Auto series… Is it just me, or did they really make it more difficult to fly a helicopter in later games? Made me wanna avoid those things because of that and no matter what choice you make in the 4th game.. Someone suffers the consequences. But at least you won’t get a call about bowling anymore at possibly the worst time to get that call.

That first boss battle in Secret of Evermore!

Unless you actually like bowling. Which hey, perfectly ok! And man… Franklin deserved a lot better! Dude tries to improve his lot in life and gets hate for it. Life, man… Always givin’ ya rotten lemons!

Saints Row… One could describe this game universe as a knock off parody of GTA and kind of is up to a certain point. Sadly, I’ve never played the first game and when they blow up the planet, they really jumped the gun. Complete with Musical Numbers! Which leads into the reboot that came out in the last few years and wasn’t all that well received. Wasn’t a huge fan of it myself either.

The Final Fantasy games… Only played 7 (OG), 8, GBA Tactics (RIP to my Mage!), 10, and the Playstation version of Tactics and sadly never finished any of them for one reason or another. Tho I might have with GBA Tactics but its been awhile. One day I’ll try the FF7 remake.

Stay tuned, folks! This is just the beginning!
