Is Ted Ok? #1

Warning: Potential Spoilers Ahead

Isolation, paranoia, night terrors, anti-social habits, an ad designer job for the only trillionaire (scary concept) in the world, along with a few other things is our boy Ted. Who seems to be able to relate with Annie and Alison given their own respective issues while looking pretty unhealthy in my view. Tho whether or not he’d actually talk with those two is another thing entirely given ol’ boy would rather repeatedly draw three alien looking figures in an obsessive manner than talk to someone. I mean… It could be a lot more creepier and or stalkery but its not. Well, its worrisome at any rate.

We don’t know what the deal is exactly with Ted’s issues and the fact he hasn’t been fired for wearing headphones on the job and refusing to talk is a little shocking. But I guess darn good work being done for a trillionaire has its perks? Maybe I should look into something like that!

Then there’s the lovely Ms. Sarah, we don’t know much about her aside from the fact she got moved to the West Coast for mysteriously mysterious reasons. She seems like a good person but given she’s willingly spying on fellow employees like Ted is a point against her. Also makes me wonder if Ted and the others she watches over are even remotely aware of that but seems a little unlikely at this point in the story. Of course, Ted probably just wouldn’t give a crap ‘cause he’s Ted. And the Cat would probably just encourage that kind of mindset.

Which is why those two get along so well no doubt! I’m also liking how Dave Chisholm continues to keep things mysterious where Sarah’s inner naration is concerned.

I’m also loving the select limited use of colors he uses through out the book, redefining a blue mood in the process! And Sarah, despite the fact she’s not supposed to, wants to help our boy Ted, showing just how good a person she is. But the road to Hell is paved with good intentions as the old saying goes and we witness an example of that where these two are concerned with some unfortunate consequences while allowing us to see another layer of how things are in this world of Dave’s. That ending tho…

Does this mean Ted’s insurance is THAT good? Does he have a twin? Is this some sort of ‘They Cloned Tyrone’ situation? Or is Sarah just a bit coo coo for Cocoa Puffs and doesn’t realize it given the stress of things? Only Dave knows for certain and I look forward to what he does next when March 25th hits!

Summary: This is a story about Ted and Sarah.

Ted, isolated and paranoid, works for a mega-corporation owned by the world’s only trillionaire. He suffers from night terrors, obsessively draws the same mysterious figures again and again, all while listening to one track of music on repeat–oh, and the only “person” he ever talks to is a stray cat. His humanity is hanging by a thread.

Sarah is a new arrival to the city, fighting her own demons, and her job is to remotely spy on Ted to ensure he doesn’t hurt anyone…or himself. When Ted’s mental state begins to crack, Sarah compassionately intervenes to help, and things go catastrophically wrong.

IS TED OK? mashes up the paranoid existentialism of SEVERANCE with the cosmic sci-fi of AKIRA while exploring what happens when the act of help goes horribly wrong.
